About Origens do Brasil UK

The group was founded in 1978 by Master Adelmo Pereira Lima, from Brasilia, actually in Sao Paulo – Brazil. Professora Bia, (Beatriz Viana Rosa), started Capoeira in 1998 in Sao Paulo and was responsible for bringing Capoeira to Bournemouth in 2002. Since then, the Origens do Brasil group has expanded to various locations in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire.

The key objective of our project is to invest in the long-term health and well-being of our community in the UK through Capoeira, motivating children and adults to be active, to control their physical abilities to avoid violence and anger.

To build up a strong and positive attitude towards the society they live in; to confront fears and anxieties.

Our group provides equal opportunities for less abled children and people who are excluded for any reason. Our aim is to integrate people into a social circle surrounded by culture, music and physical skills in an atmosphere which everyone can feel like a family and enjoying learning.

We want to make you proud of yourself and to prove that you can achieve goals and to develop physically, mentally and emotionally through different Capoeira elements.

:: Certification by British Red Cross

For the Health and Safety of our students, Professora Bia is certified by British Red Cross - First Aid for appointed person number 39267-BF6.

:: Music classes

As music is an important part of Capoeira, and essential to create a proper environment for the players in a roda, our teachers ensure that all students learn Capoeira songs knowing what they are singing.

All the materials are provided including musical instruments, documents containing the history of Capoeira, lyrics and games which help the students to get into the culture and the Portuguese language.

These classes are provided outside of the normal class timetable, at least once every 6 weeks and it must be booked in advance as places are limited.

:: The Grading

In Capoeira like other martial arts, there is a ceremony of grading once a year, which is called Batizado, where the capoeirista receives his/her first belt and then after that the belt is replaced by other colored belts, each one with its respective meaning. Please check the following link and find out more about our system of graduation.

However, to become a complete Capoeirista, it requires discipline, dedication, passion, respect for life, others and themselves. It is also measured through the student’s improvement of moves, musicality, and language.

Our group is committed to develop Capoeiristas and not just Capoeira players, in other words, the development of body, mind and soul is essential.
